Location & Directions

As of November 2017, Kismet Dao Hostel has moved back to our original location in Old Town, Piata Unirii, Str. Democratiei 2B

Our central location in the Old Town means we are conveniently close to everything by foot:

  • 8 minutes to Republicii street (where virtually everything happens),
  • 7 minutes to Piata Sfatului (the main square) and the Black Church,
  • 2 minutes to all the conveniences such as markets and the post office.

Directions

By Bus:

Each ticket costs 4 ron/two ways which you buy from a kiosk. Make sure you validate your ticket on board because the ticket officials will fine you if your ticket is not stamped. Take Bus 51 to Piata Unirii-- 8 stops. When you get off the bus, Piata Unirii (the square) is directly in front of you. Cross Piata Unirii to get to the other side. With the church to your left and Piata Unirii to your back, take Str. Coastei and then take a right uphill on Str. Democratiei. The walk takes about 5 minutes.

By Taxi:

It is better most times to take a taxi than a bus, as it is cheap and fast. A ride from the train station should cost about 4-5 Euros or approx. 30 RON. Use only taxis with company names on them (e.g. RO, ATI, MARTAX, TOD) and make sure they turn the meter on.

Romania’s Own Valentine’s Day

Romania has it’s own equivalent of Valentine’s Day celebrated in early spring on February 24th - Dragobete, the name of the local counterpart of Roman God of Love, Cupid or the Greek God, Eros. Dragobete is the protector of love, joy and fertility. He’s Dacian name is believed to come from “trago” – meaning “he”, symbol of fertility, and “pede” – “legs. Today is a day of joy – young people spending it together, of love, young single man and women finding each other (the guys try to catch the girl they like and kiss her).
