Get around Braşov

Public transport in Brasov is operated by RATBv (Regia Autonomă de Transport Braşov - The Public Transportation Company of Braşov) and is comprised of buses (23 lines), minibuses (12 lines) and trolleybuses (6 lines). Hours of operation are usually from 5.30 to 23.30/24.00 on weekdays and from 6.30 to 22.30/23.00 on weekends, no service at night.

Tickets/fares:

  • Tickets valid for all lines, except line 20: 1 trip - ticket/1.5 lei (~0.35 Euro); 2 trips - ticket/3 lei (~0.70 Euro).
  • Tickets for line 20 to Poiana Braşov: 1 trip - ticket/3.5 lei (~0.80 Euro);
  • Passes: 1 day nominal pass valid for all lines, except line 20: 5 lei (~1.15 Euro); 1 week nominal pass valid for all lines, except line 20: 25 lei (€5,75); 10 days nominal pass valid for all lines, except line 20: 35 lei (~8 Euro). Please always have your identification card with you when using these passes.
  • Notes: These are the most important tickets. Tickets must be punched when getting on the bus. Passes must always be accompanied by ID, since they are nominal. You have to buy the ticket before and validate it on board. Traveling without tickets/passes, or with the wrong tickets/passes, is liable for paying a fine between 45-200 lei (~11-46 Euro).
  • Ticket sales: There are special kiosks with the sign Bilete si abonamente transport public (Public transport tickets) which are also accompanied by the sign RAT. However they are not present in all bus stops and their opening hours might differ. Then, you must look for the nearest super/mini market, or newspaper vending kiosk, since they will most likely sell tickets too. If they do, they usually have a sign saying "bilete" (tickets). The most important ticket vending kiosk is in the Gara (Train Station) bus stop, which is open from 5.00-24.00.

Bus #4 from the Train station to the Center (Livada Poştei - Gara Braşov)

  • The route going to the city center has the following stops: Gara Braşov (train station) - Dacia - Infostar - Mesota - Camera de Comerţ (get out here to reach Kismet Dao Hostel) - Sanitas - Primarie - Livada Poştei (center).
  • The route going to the train stations has 7 stops: Livada Poştei (center) - Teatrul Dramatic (take your bus from the hostel to the train station here) - Patria - Hidro A - Infostar - Rapid - Gara Braşov (train station).

Minibus #51 from the Train station to the Centre (Pe Tocile - Gara Braşov)
It stops 1 minute away from the Black Church. This line also takes you to the Union Square (Piaţa Unirii) another important site to be seen.

  • The route going to the city center has the following stops: Gara Braşov - Dacia - Infostar - Onix (get out here to reach Kismet Dao Hostel) - Sanitas - Primarie (The Council Square) - Biserica Neagra (Black Church) - Brancoveanu - Piaţa Unirii - Pe Tocile.
  • The route going to the train stations has the following stops: Pe Tocile - Piata Unirii - Lic. Saguna - N. Balceascu - Star - Castanilor - Onix - Mircea cel Batran - Faget - Gara Braşov.

Minibus #50 from the Center to Union Square (Pe Tocile - Str. Castanilor - Livada Poştei)
It is nice to take it as a tour line of the Old Town and some of its surroundings. Please note that it can be crowded and sometimes miss the schedule.

  • Stops on the route from the Center to Union Sq: Livada Poştei - Biserica Neagra - Brancoveanu - Piaţa Unirii - Pe Tocile.
  • Stops on the route to the city center: Pe Tocile - Piaţa Unirii - Lic. Saguna - N. Balceascu - Star - Castanilor - Sanitas - Primarie - Livada Poştei.

Minibus #50B (barat) from the Center to Pietrele lui Solomon, a wonderful nature site (Livada Poştei - Pietrele lui Solomon)

  • Stops on the route departing from the city center: Livada Poştei - Biserica Neagra - C. Brancoveanu - Piata Unirii - Tocile - Facultativa - Varistei - Invatatorilor - Podul Cretului - La Moara - Facultativa - Pietrele lui Solomon.
  • Stops on the route departing towards the city center: Pietrele lui Solomon - Facultativa - La Moara - Podul Cretului - Invatatorilor - Junilor - Tocile - Piata Unirii - Saguna - N. Balcescu - Star - Castanilor - Sanitas - Primarie - Livada Poştei.

Bus #31 from the Center (Livada Poştei) to Valea Cetăţii district.
This here is a residential area, but it is worth visiting for its nature surroundings.

Buses to Bran, Moeciu, Râşnov and other directions

You can take a bus to these directions from either Autogara 2, Bartolomeu area or Stadionul Municipal bus terminal; there are lines that take you from the train station/center to these particular places.

  • Buses #23, #23B: Train station (Gara) - Stadionul Municipal via Stadionul Tineretului (near Autogara 2) and Bartolomeu area.
  • Bus #16: Stadionul Municipal - City center
  • Bus #12: Center (Livada Poştei) - Stadionul Tineretului (near Autogara 2)
  • Bus #5: from the Primărie bus stop (New City Hall - 4 min walk from the Livada Poştei bus station through the Park) - Stadionul Municipal via Str. Lungă and Bartolomeu.

Buses to Poiana Braşov

  • Bus #20: Center (Livada Poştei) - Poiana Braşov. When you buy the ticket you have to mention that you want trips for the line 20. The clerks will give you the appropriate ticket.
